Roxanne the River Van is the Nene Rivers Trust’s new mobile classroom - capable of delivering educational and engagement activity wherever the roads will take her, from her Make a River workshop (above) to her signature SandLab (below), Roxanne is committed to making Roxanne River Fans out of every participant she meets!
First purchased in 2025, with funding provided by the North Northamptonshire Council, Roxanne was developed with an ambition to aid in the delivery of river based activity and exploration. Through a series of pilot events and first-hand feedback, the Nene Rivers Trust has sought to create something unique - a mobile classroom capable of delivering education and community engagement without the need for a nearby body of water.
Going forward, the vision for Roxanne the River Van is a series of regular engagements and activity capable of bringing professional-quality education and entertainment to all ages, including primary, secondary, college and university, as well as corporate consultation and strategy.
Roxanne isn't only the sum of her own parts however - she is also a means of transporting a number of educational tools and activities as part of The Roxanne River Plan (read more below).

The SandLab!
In her bed, Roxanne is equipped with the SandLab, a fully interactive sand table pre-programmed with resources for learning about landscapes and water flow, to games and entertainment for younger years.
Make a River!
Roxanne often travels with her beautiful Make A River kit - a practical recreation of a full river eco-system, offering an introductory look at how rivers are formed in a hands-on, participatory activity.
Pop-Up!
If your event can be reached by road, Roxanne is available to visit your event. With her, she'll bring free giveaways promoting various Nene River Trust projects, as well as responsible water usage - and visitors will also receive unlimited access to her SandLab!
